Under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and in collaboration with V4 Advisors and IUCN (International Union of Conservation of Nature), Bank Audi’s CSR Unit organized an environment awareness workshop entitled “My Environment is My Country”, on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Bank Audi Plaza in Bab Idriss.

The workshop, which addressed employees’ children aged between 10 and 15, aimed at further developing their knowledge on climate change and its impact on the environment.
It gathered 90 children who gave speakers their full attention as they introduced them to Lebanon’s protected areas, as well as to the impact of climate change, the concept of “carbon footprint”, and the ways to decrease daily energy consumption.

Following a brief welcoming note by Mrs. Hasmig Khoury, Head of CSR at Bank Audi, the session was inaugurated by Mr. Nizar Hani, representative of the Ministry of the Environment and Shouf Biosphere Reserve Manager, who briefed the audience on Lebanon’s protected areas, specifying their particularities, identifying their biosphere and raising awareness on the threat of extinction it faces.

Mrs. Lea Abou Jaoude, Project Director of Climate Change at the Ministry of the Environment, explained the impact of climate change on the planet which she described as “currently sick”. She also pointed out to the high temperature the planet had never witnessed until now, which is caused by humans’ use of energy which, in turn, leads to an increase in pollution and climate change.

Mr. Rawad Massoud, consultant at V4 advisors, concluded the workshop by introducing the “carbon footprint” concept and discussing ways to decrease our daily energy consumption.
A competition was then launched whereby each family was invited to measure its carbon footprint during the four coming months, at the term of which the best performer will be granted a reward.

At the end of the presentations, the children were able to visit an exhibit organised by IUCN displaying different biospheres and their reserves.
