On Sunday, June 7, 2015, 22 ladies from Bank Audi decided to challenge themselves, rise and run in the 10-kilometer Women’s Race organized by the Beirut Marathon Association. For many participants, such a task seemed trouble-free. However, as the race went on, many of our colleagues felt the burn on the scorching asphalt as they dragged their tired feet. Yet, there was no going back and the aim was to reach the finish line so our strong and powerful colleagues who believed in the National Commission for Lebanese Women’s (NCLW) cause completed the race in Jbeil to support women across the country.
The race gathered women from all walks of life, all ages and all backgrounds; they rallied and participated in a contest that was designed specifically for them. What distinguished this year’s event was the participation of the male counterpart in the marathon, as the management found it adequate to have men run along women; a step that comes as a model of equality and openness.
The Beirut Marathon Women’s race was launched three years ago so as to engage women in competitive sports, empower them in society and push the boundaries further allowing women to reach places they only dreamed of.
