Based on the UN Global Compact’s Human Rights and Labour principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth) which is adopted by Bank Audi, SDG 10 (Reduce inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions), the Global Compact Network Lebanon’s (GCNL) Steering Committee, of which Bank Audi is a member, conducted a one-day workshop on the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Lebanese workforce at AUB on September 6, 2016.
HR and CSR managers and professionals attended this workshop in which the Minister of Social Affairs was the keynote speaker.
Discussions about the law 220/2000, the terminologies used, the tools which can be used to recruit and the added value of hiring a disabled person were raised. In addition, success stories were shared with the audience.
This event was part of the GCNL activity plan for the year 2016, aiming to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities within organizations in Lebanon and help them obtain decent and productive job opportunities. To conclude, the Steering Committee announced that their next step will be creating an e-platform where disabled persons can upload their CVs, skills, capabilities and in parallel, businesses can post their employment opportunities.
