Electronic waste or e-waste describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. Used electronics which are destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling or disposal are also considered e-waste. Processing of such materials in developing countries can lead to adverse human health effects and environmental pollution due to various chemicals and materials that are used in the production of such equipment or accessories.

Electronic scrap components, such as CPUs, RAMs, etc. contain potentially harmful components i.e.: lead, cadmium and beryllium. Recycling and disposing of e-waste may involve significant risk to workers and communities and great care must be taken to avoid unsafe exposure in recycling operations and leaking of heavy metals from landfills and incinerator ashes.
In this respect, Bank Audi’s CSR Unit extended its Recycling Program to include electronic waste for ONE day at Palladium underground parking B3 in celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2016.
This initiative aimed to help:
  • Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills,
  • Conserve natural resources such as wood, water and minerals,
  • Prevent pollution,
  • Save energy,
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming and
  • Help sustain the environment for future generations
Collected materials went to Association de L’Écoute; an organization established in 1990 that tends to disabled persons (deaf, blind or suffering from limited mobility) and to people suffering from illnesses. Association de L’Écoute will upcycle collected materials by creating items to fund the purchase of wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc. In sum:
  • 62 kg were collected from employees
  • 903 kg were collected from the I.T. department
